Welding Method
Spot Welding: Process, Advantages and Application Areas
In resistance spot welding, overlapping metal sheets are clamped between two electrodes and welded at defined points. Electrical current passes through the contact area, generating heat due to electrical resistance. The material melts locally and solidifies under the pressure of the electrodes, forming a durable joint at the weld spot.
This process allows for high cycle rates and consistent results. It's used for joining thin-gauge metals and profiles, with applications spanning from automotive body construction to relay contact assemblies in electronic components.
Product Overview

Electrodes
See productSpot welding electrodes conduct current and contact force precisely into the joint area. Available in straight, offset, Dalex, or custom designs made of high-conductivity copper or WIRBALIT® HF (CuCr1Zr).

Electrode Caps
See productElectrode caps transfer welding current and form the contact surface to the workpiece. Available in zirconium copper (CuZr), WIRBALIT® CA (CuAl₂O₃), or WIRBALIT® HF (CuCr1Zr).

Electrode Holders and Shanks
See productElectrode holders and shanks ensure current transfer between the welding gun and the electrode. Available in straight or angled designs, made of WIRBALIT® HF/N/G (CuCr1Zr), WIRBALIT® CA (CuAl₂O₃), or WIRBALIT® D (CuNi₂.₅SiCr).

Electrode Arms
See productElectrode arms transfer welding current and closing force from the welding gun to the electrode and ensure stable positioning. Available in straight or angled versions, made of WIRBALIT® B (CuCr1Zr) or aluminum.

Shunt Straps
See productShunt straps transfer welding current between the power source and moving components such as guns, arms, or holders, while compensating for movement during the process. Made of stacked copper laminations, available in standard sizes or as custom designs.

Connection Cables
See productConnection cables transfer welding current with minimal loss from the power source to the welding gun. Available as air- or water-cooled versions made of Cu-ETP or oxygen-free copper (OFC).
